Cochran, Roosevelt to Headline Conservation Fundraiser

U.S. Senator Thad Cochran and Theodore Roosevelt IV, the great grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt will be headlining a fundraiser in Jackson, Mississippi, to raise funds for the Mississippi Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the state's largest charitable conservation foundation.

According to Peyton Self, President of the Mississippi Fish and Wildlife Foundation, "We couldn't have found two individuals with a stronger conservation record than Senator Cochran and Mr. Roosevelt. We are excited and pleased that they have donated their time and good name to raise funds for such a worthy cause."

Cochran is author of the Mississippi Wilderness Act and the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program, and a major supporter of the Conservation and Wetlands Reserve programs. He has been influential in establishing and acquiring land for National Wildlife Refuges and National Forests. He received the Conservation Legislator of the Year Award from the National Wildlife Federation and the Conservationist of the Year Award from the North American Waterfowl Federation.

Roosevelt, a New York investment executive and avid conservationist, is on a trip to Louisiana and Mississippi to call attention to the need to restore bottomland hardwood forests. President Roosevelt created both the Forest Service and the National Wildlife Refuge System. The younger Roosevelt is the spokesman for the National Wildlife Refuge System.

The fundraiser will be held at the home of William and Mollie Van Devender on December 14 in Jackson. For more information regarding the Foundation or the reception/dinner with U.S. Senator Thad Cochran and Theodore Roosevelt IV, contact the Foundation at (662) 686-3375.

Known as "Wildlife Mississippi," the Mississippi Fish and Wildlife Foundation is a charitable, non-profit, conservation organization founded to conserve, restore and enhance fish, wildlife and plant resources throughout Mississippi.
