Quality Incentives Program, Wetland Reserve Program and the Wildlife
Habitat Incentives Program (2002). |

of wildlife (2000).

Worked with
Senators Trent Lott (R-MS), Thad Cochran (R-MS) and Herb Kohl
(D-WI) to provide an additional $12.5 million for
the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program. In 1996, Senator Cochran
introduced an amendment to the 1996 Farm Bill authorizing and
funding the program. To date, it has utilized $62.5 million to
enroll approximately 1,750,000 acres utilizing approximately 10,750
long-term agreements. Landowners and partners contributed an additional
$37.5 million toward the program. Mississippi has received $2.7
million in funding and ranks #2 in the nation in funding from
the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program. This program has enhanced
and restored 38,309 acres of fish and wildlife habitat throughout
Mississippi's 82 counties (2000).
